With a chill in the air outside, inside my heart warmed at seeing so many people come out for An Evening at the Barre, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet’s annual gala benefiting CPYB students. The room exploded with enthusiasm!
Guests came motivated to be part of the giving community that so wonderfully supports CPYB students’ training.
This year’s fall gala was held on the Dickinson College campus to accommodate attendance. Upon arrival we savored one another’s company while enjoying fine wine, nibbled on scrumptious appetizers, and bid on a silent auction item or two or three, maybe four. The live gypsy jazz sounds of the DeAngelo Trio beckoned us as we made our way to partake of a deliciously prepared three-course dinner. Yum! Our meal was topped off by a flavorful crème brulee – your choice. Chocolate or lemon. (Oh, what to choose!) Vacation get-aways, a Major League Baseball All-Star package, garden parties, and gold and sterling silver jewelry headlined a spirited live auction.
For me, one of the most delectable parts of the evening was tasting the outstanding talents of CPYB students at an exclusive performance! August Bournonville’s charming love duet, Flower Festival, opened the program, followed by CPYB’s youngest brood who showed off their blossoming partnering skills in Greensleeves. With electrifying energy and verve of the Swing Era, twenty young women and men concluded the show in a rousing performance from Alan Hineline’s Roseland Pictures.
The goal of An Evening at the Barre is, of course, to raise money. Through generous corporate sponsorships, individual gifts, and both silent and live auctions, we pushed CPYB beyond the $95,000 mark! The generosity of those who gave greatly benefits CPYB students through scholarships, educational programs and the continuation of world-class ballet training.
Many thanks, gala co-chairs Emily DeAngelo and Millicent Powers. You, your hardworking volunteers, CPYB student ambassadors, and the staff, faculty and students of CPYB served up a memorable evening for us all. Oh, what a night indeed!
